Acupuncture Real or Pseudoscience?
There has been a huge upsurge in alternative therapies in the west in recent years. Part of this is undoubtedly due to the skyrocketing cost of health care. However, there is also a deeper, more subtle reason for this new interest. Many feel that the west has lost touch with the spiritual dimension of life, and the deconstructionist theories of modern medicine are one of the best examples of this. Traditional Chinese medicine and other holistic therapies are becoming popular as a means of restoring what many view as a lost sense of balance to western society.
While the reasons for the interest in acupuncture and other forms of holistic therapy are easy to understand, the real question of whether or not acupuncture and other types of traditional Chinese medicine are effective in a medical sense remains at issue. Many claim that any improvement in a condition treated by acupuncture is actually due to the body's natural healing abilities possibly combined with a placebo effect.
Numerous scientific studies have attempted to determine whether or not acupuncture is effective in treating diseases and injuries. The results of these studies have been mixed, and the other side often blames the results on preconceived ideas held by the experimenters.
The reason for this sharp conflict between acupuncture and traditional western medicine is based on the fact that the two traditions have entirely different theoretical underpinnings. Western medicine views the body as a massively complex machine. As such, the body is composed of component parts that must work together in order to function properly. In this view, diseases can be isolated to certain body components and treated at the component level. In other words, if one experiences kidney failure, then the kidneys should be treated. Likewise, those who are having trouble with their eyes should have their eyes treated. This is so obvious to someone who has grown up in a western culture that any suggestion otherwise seems silly. Nevertheless, the traditional Chinese view of the body is quite different. Traditional Chinese medicine views the body as an emergent phenomenon greater than the sum of its parts. Disorders are caused by blockages or imbalances in energy flow. Therefore, treatments need not be localized at the point of disorder--rather they should be located at the point of the blockage causing the disorder.
It seems unlikely that eastern and western medical traditions are going to find common ground in the near term. Nevertheless, acupuncture is growing in popularity and seems to be here to stay.

Holistic Health and Beauty Therapy
One popular form of holistic health and beauty therapy is aromatherapy. Many practitioners believe that certain scents are conducive to certain bodily reactions and, in this way, may be used to treat diseases or promote general health and well being. No one can argue that the sense of smell is our mostly strongly associative. It is amazing how often one smells a certain aroma and is transported back to another place and time where the aroma was encountered. There are real scientific explanations for this fact. The sense of smell is our most basic, primitive sense and is in many ways "hard wired" directly into the brain in a way that the other senses are not. For this reason, many people believe that aromatherapy is a valid and effective holistic health and beauty therapy.
Another popular form of holistic health and beauty therapy is herbal medicine. For years, naturally occurring herbs have been used to treat almost any illness that you can imagine. While no one is sure how our ancestors came by this knowledge, the fact that it has been used successfully for so long attests to its benefits. Many doctors have become aware of herbal therapies and are offering them in conjunction with standard medical practices. A word of caution--since herbal remedies are not regulated the way other medications are, you are never sure that what you are getting is what is advertised. Also, many herbal remedies can interact with other medications, so be sure to consult with your physician before trying an herbal holistic health and beauty therapy treatments.
Holistic health and beauty therapy is an increasingly popular alternative to the purely scientific medicine of the west. While some may doubt its efficacy, no one can doubt its popularity. Be sure to consult with your physician before beginning any herbal based holistic health and beauty therapy to make sure that the herbal treatments you will be using do not interact with any medications you may be taking.

The Power of Touch And Acupressure
Acupressure is based on the framework of traditional Chinese medicine, which is based on completely different theoretical underpinnings than western medicine. In traditional Chinese medicine, the body is not viewed as a machine--rather it is viewed as a collection of processes and energy flows that must be kept in balance. Any disruption of the energy flows can result in sickness, weakness, or even death. Therefore, all forms of traditional Chinese medicine, from acupuncture and acupressure to traditional Chinese herbal therapies are based on the concept of restoring balance to parts of the body that have become imbalanced.
To the uninitiated, acupressure may seem to be completely bizarre since often times the treatments are applied to parts of the body that are nowhere near the disorder or illness. For example, acupressure treatments for a headache might involve treatments that focus on the abdomen, the knee, or the hand. While nonsensical to a traditional western medical practitioner, this practice makes perfect sense to the practitioner of acupressure. Since blockages can occur anywhere in the body and lead to conditions that might not be localized at the point of the blockage, there is no reason to be surprised that an acupressure practitioner might focus on parts of the body that are not located physically near the point of illness or injury.
While practitioners and patients of acupressure are convinced of its efficacy, the western medical establishment has not joined the bandwagon. Numerous tests have been conducted to determine whether or not acupressure has a real, measurable effect on health and wellness and results have, to this point, been inconclusive. However, some would argue that trying to evaluate eastern techniques via western scientific practices is simply begging the question, and any such attempt is doomed to fail. However, western practitioners counter this argument by pointing out that illness or the lack thereof is perfectly measurable and any treatment, eastern or otherwise, can be verified experimentally regardless of its axiomatic underpinnings. And so the debate rages on.
While the issue of the efficacy of acupressure and other forms of traditional Chinese medicine may never be settled to the extent that the western establishment requires, its practitioners and patients swear by it. Only time will tell whether traditional eastern medical techniques will find a place within the culture at large. One could argue that that time has already occurred given the popularity of the practice.

A Short History of Leedsware Pottery
As the name implies, Leedsware pottery originated in Leeds, England, in 1770 by brothers Joshua and John Green along with their business partner Richard Humble. The most successful products in the early days of the Leedsware pottery business were those made out of creamware, which is made from a special form of clay found in and around Cornwall. Creamware is at first glance a rather austere substance and seems a rather unusual choice for elegant and stylized Leedsware pottery pieces. However, a little consideration of the subject points out that by choosing such a neutral medium as creamware, the creators of Leedsware pottery ensure that the pieces will be respected in and valued because of their exquisite craftsmanship, not because of their material make up.
The Leedsware pottery company went out of business in the late nineteenth century. Fortunately for Leedsware pottery lovers everywhere, many of the original Leedsware pottery molds survived demolition and many of those that did not have been painstaking recreated from notes, records, and similar existing museum pieces. The modern Leedsware pottery company prides itself on creating pottery pieces that are identical in every way to the creations that were produced by the company in the eighteenth and nineteenth century. The construction process is similar to what it was all those years ago, and many of the steps involve hands on craftsmanship.
Perhaps the hallmark of Leedsware pottery is the elegant and functional serving bowls and dishes that graced many of the finest homes in Georgian and Victorian England. Traditional British meals of the period were a multi course affair and this meant that the well to do British household had to have a substantial supply of quality serving ware to serve their meals in style. Leedsware pottery featured elegant serving dishes and bowls, tea kettles, serving trays, and fine Leedsware pottery drinking vessels.
In addition to meal time Leedsware pottery goods, the company also supplied a number of pieces for other uses. The Leedsware inkstand was a vital part of the writing desk for a man of letters of the day. The Leedsware pottery inkstand featured receptacles for ink, special compartments to hold pens, and a pot for powder that was used to dry the ink after writing.

A Brief History of the Popular My Little Pony Toys
My Little Pony toys were introduced by the toy manufacturer Hasbro in 1982 following the release of the successful My Pretty Pony toys the year before. The My Little Pony toys were very popular throughout the nineteen eighties and went on to spawn a Saturday morning cartoon show, a number of animated movies, several books, records, and other related bits of media merchandise. The My Little Pony toys were so popular that many other toy manufacturers tried to produce knock off versions of My Little Pony toys, generally with little success. The fake My Little Pony toys (known as fakies to My Little Pony collectors) were never very successful as they were generally made of cheap materials and did not have the power of the Hasbro marketing machine behind them.
My Little Pony Toys are still very popular with children all over the world, but they are also enjoying new life as collector's items. It is not unusual to find mint condition My Little Pony toys selling for hundreds of dollars on online auction sites and other internet trading venues. The collector's trade has sparked a real increase in interest in My Little Pony toys and has made it one of the most beloved toy franchises in toy history.
It all started with what is now known as Generation 1 (or G1). The G1 My Little Pony toys were known as the Dream Valley My Little Pony toys and consisted of six ponies. The ponies were all what are now known as "Earth Ponies." Earth ponies are My Little Pony toys that are based on real horses in contrast to the Pegasus, unicorn, and other fanciful My Little Pony toys. Generation 2 My Little Pony toys introduced Pegasus and Unicorn My Little Pony toys in addition to more Earth Ponies. G2 was much more popular in Europe that it was in the United States. Current My Little Pony toys are Generation 3, and include both Earth Ponies and other My Little Pony toys.
My Little Pony toys are unique in their style and simplicity. They are valued both as playthings and as collector's items. Hugely popular for more than two decades, My Little Pony toys are among the most successful toys in history.

Homeopathy Treating Like with Like
Homeopathy is based on the curious notion that the strength of the curative power of a substance is directly proportional to its dilution which runs counter to the fact that the potency of most substances is proportional to its concentration and inversely proportional to its dilution. In homeopathy, remedies are typically first mixed with water in some fixed proportion (typically one part in ten or one part in one hundred). The original solution is then further diluted with water using the same concentration. These dilution steps can occur thirty times or more. Following traditional homeopathy remedy preparation techniques, it is estimated that one would have to consume somewhere between twenty five to fifty tons of the remedy to ingest even a single molecule of the active agent. This means that it is virtually guaranteed that any homeopathy treatment is nothing more than pure water.
Proponents of homeopathy are not deterred by such mathematical arguments since they believe that the potency of the original curative substance is imprinted into the water and only strengthens with each dilution. Opponents counter that water must have come into contact with nearly every substance imaginable at some point or another and therefore every drink of water we take should already contain every possible homeopathic remedy. Homeopathy practitioners assert that the precise mixing technique is what gives the remedy its power, not random encounters.
Scientific experiments designed to test the efficacy of homeopathy have not proven either that the treatments are or are not effective. Some studies claim one way while others the converse, while others still are inconclusive. Regardless of the outcome, the people on either side of the argument tend to claim that experiments that favor the other side are somehow biased or flawed. This is a fairly common situation when alternative therapies are tested. The real issue is faith as it is unlikely that western science will ever accept the methods of homeopathy barring some earth shattering and completely unexpected developments in the fields of physics, chemistry, and/or biology.

The Ultimate in Elegance Royal Creamware Fine Chine
While Royal Creamware fine chine used to be distributed and sold primarily by local British purveyors of porcelain products, today the best way to obtain Royal Creamware fine chine is via the internet. From this website, you can browse and purchase every piece of Royal Creamware fine chine that is currently in production.
While Royal Cream fine chine consists of every type of porcelain artifact imaginable, perhaps the most exquisite example of the Royal Creamware dedication to detail is exhibited by the Royal Creamware collection of fine timepieces. The Royal Creamware daisy mantle clock is a perfect example of Royal Creamware quality and exactness. The gentle, sloping bell shaped body of the clock combined with the sharply angular base serves to offset the exquisite detail of the fine daisy tessellation pattern that engulfs and surrounds the face of the time piece. Never before has elegance met practicality in such a way. For those who need a timepiece that can be hung and displayed on the wall, the royal Creamware wall clock features a delicate dial surrounded by an austere yet elegant china face plate.
Another area in which Royal Creamware fine chine displays its utmost charm and elegance is in its delicate yet highly functional picture frames. The Nostalgia Photograph frame represents the ultimate in elegance and simplicity. Your photograph is displayed in an ovular presentation area surrounded by an airy pattern of relief that serves to focus the viewer's eye onto the content of the photo while still providing a veneer of elegance. Along the same lines, the Royal Creamware Rope Photograph Frame provides a simple yet functional backdrop to your photograph. The austere background works equally well with color or black and white shots and will enhance the appearance of the image without overwhelming it.
Royal Creamware is synonymous with high quality serving bowls that are both functional and ornate. The Royal Creamware Charlotte Bowl features a sturdy creamware stand with a light and breezy bowl structure replete with arches and trefoils. The handles resemble entwined branches and the overall aura of the bowl is that of a petrified fine wooden vessel.
Whether you are seeking a fine timepiece, a majestic picture frame, or an elegant yet functional serving bowl, you should consider purchasing Royal Creamware fine chine. As every piece is an exact replica of pieces that were created centuries ago, you can experience the best of British Victorian pottery by purchasing Royal Creamware fine chine.

Succeeding at Self-Hypnosis
Self-hypnosis is one type of hypnosis, gaining in popularity both as a result of recent trends in alternative healthcare as well as being, for some people, the most attractive kind of hypnosis. Many who are unwilling to be hypnotized are willing to try self-hypnosis because in self-hypnosis the hypnotizer is also the hypnotized!
One might try self-hypnosis in order to lose weight, or perhaps to reduce stress or to increase happiness. Practitioners promoting hypnosis claim that hypnosis can be used for absolutely anything; there is no exact, fixed list of things/problems that hypnosis can treat. Self-hypnosis, as well as other types of hypnosis can be used for whatever it is that one wants to change in life.
Self-hypnosis is done by relaxing and putting oneself into a meditative state. It can be practiced by adults and children alike, in fact, studies have shown that children are very successful at self-hypnosis because they have developed imaginations and have not yet developed a truly skeptical or rational outlook. Self-hypnosis with children should be closely monitored and should not stand in the place of professional medical care.
In self-hypnosis, there’s nothing to lose. The fear of losing control in traditional ways of being hypnotized does not apply. If you’re curious and open-minded, give it a try; there’s nothing to lose and a multitude of benefits to gain.

Herbal Supplements Old Treatments for a New Age
Herbal supplements can be delivered in a number of ways. Herbal teas are a very commonly used herbal supplements delivery method. This involves heating the active part of the herb (the leaves, stem, roots, seeds, or other part) in heated water and then drinking the mixture. Herbal tinctures are solutions of the active part of the herb in alcohol.
Fluid and solid herbal supplement extracts are herbal supplements that have undergone chemical processes to isolate the most active component of the herbal supplement and may then be delivered in pill or fluid form. Herbal supplements can also be delivered as creams if the active ingredient is easily absorbed through the skin. Some herbal supplements are delivered as essential oils. Essential oils are applied to various parts of the body and, due to their highly volatile nature, are typically inhaled. Aromatherapy is an example of essential oil treatment with herbal supplements.
There are a number of herbal supplements on the market that have a variety of health benefits. Artichoke is said to lower the levels of bad cholesterol in the blood, and Echinacea extract is a commonly used herbal supplement to ward off the symptoms of common cold and flu disorders. Garlic is thought to lower cholesterol levels as well and also has beneficial effects in regards to blood pressure and platelet generation. Peppermint is often used to treat disorders of the digestive system and Saint John's Wort is a commonly used herbal supplement that supposedly provides relief for sufferers of depression and anxiety.
Many people who take herbal supplements to treat various disorders do not realize that herbal supplements can often interact with traditional western medications. The ingredients in herbal supplements, however, are often very potent and can cause severe complications when combined with western medications. It is therefore advisable that anyone who chooses to use herbal supplements should consult their primary care physician to make sure that the herbal supplements that they are planning to take will not negatively interact with any other medications that they may be taking.

Classic Elegance--The Hartley Greens Pottery Company
Hartley Greens pottery is still available today since many of the original molds survived after the company closed and the factories demolished in the late eighteenth century. Since the Hartley Greens pottery company is dedicated to closely following the original manufacturing processes of the pottery, you can be assured that any piece of Hartley Greens pottery that you purchase will look, feel, and smell just like an original would have.
Hartley Greens pottery is famous for its superb line of dinnerware pieces. Well to do households of the Victorian era made emulating the trends and fashion of royalty a constant obsession. In this very class conscious society, Hartley Greens pottery was seen as a must have for any household that wanted to cement their position among society's upper echelon. Since meals of the time were typically served in many courses, there had to be enough dinnerware on hand to accommodate the different stages of the meal. For this reason, a large number of dinnerware pieces were created by the Hartley Greens Pottery Company.
Nothing says old world British elegance better than Hartley Greens pottery tea sets. Tea time in Victorian Britain was a serious affair indeed, and Hartley Greens pottery tea sets were the perfect complement to this delightfully British tradition. Indeed, Hartley Greens pottery tea sets are still commonly seen at tea time in Britain.
Hartley Greens pottery also has a line of elegant yet functional pitchers and jugs. The Country Lass Jug shows a country lass on the relief of the pitcher and has a bulbous shape with a flared neck. The Country Lass jug makes the perfect addition to a traditional English breakfast where it is perfectly at home housing milk or juice. The hunting scene jug is similar to the Country Lass jug except it features an exciting fox hot scene in the relief.
Mugs are a specialty of the Hartley Greens Pottery Company. The standard by which all other ceramic mugs are measured is the Hartley Greens Leeds Mug. The Leeds mug is a solid creamware mug in a pleasing cylindrical shape that features a unique intertwined double looped handle with leaves at the terminal points. If you prefer ale to coffee, then you should consider the Hartley Greens Pottery Company Melbourne Tankard. The Melbourne Tankard is a mighty vessel that measures five inches in height and is the perfect vessel in which to enjoy ale or mead.

Bach Flower Remedies--Homeopathy with a Floral Twist
Bach flower remedies were invented (or, as practitioners might say, discovered) by Dr. Edward Bach, a British physician. After an exemplary career as a western medical doctor, Dr. Bach became disenchanted with the western deconstructionist method of medical treatment and began to search for a more holistic method of treating the whole person, not just the individual parts. Dr. Bach fervently believed that the root causes of disease were not material but were rather a result of an imbalance between the soul and the mind. Such disorders could clearly not be treated by relying on western medicine, which only seeks to treat the body. Therefore, Dr. Bach began a quest to seek out alternative forms of therapy to treat the imbalance that he believed was the root cause of all disease. In this way, Dr. Bach more resembled traditional Chinese medicine practitioners who believe that all disorders are caused by imbalances than he did his western medicine colleagues who all believed that disorders could be treated by isolating the point of sickness and treating that point.
Dr. Bach believed that the essence of naturally occurring flowers could treat the bodily imbalances that were causing disorders and therefore he developed a system of treatment using the extracts of flowers diluted in a solution of brandy. Dr. Bach's system maintains that the efficacy of the flower substance is not influenced by repeated dilutions as a certain material essence remains in the solute. In this way, Bach flower remedies resemble homeopathy, which utilizes incredibly dilute solutions of various substances to treat illnesses and injuries.
Perhaps the most famous of the Bach flower remedies is the so called "rescue remedy" which is a combination of multiple flower extracts, including that of the Star of Bethlehem, the cherry plum, the rock rose, and others. Rescue remedy is said to be an effective stress reliever that is also useful for anxiety attacks and depression. Rescue remedy is typically administered with a small dropper or as a cream that is rubbed into the skin.
Other flower remedies include more than four hundred distinct flower remedies that can be used to treat anything from unfounded fear to strange dreaming to self hated and envy. Clearly, the western medical establishment is skeptical at best of the Bach flower remedies and only time will tell if the flower remedies become accepted in the future.

The Power of Touch--Acupressure

The Skinny on Slimming and Diet Supplements
Slimming and diet supplements have gotten into the media recently. Remember all the hoodia hype? Some proponents still claim that it’s ‘100% safe’ while many doctors continue to find it ill-advised to use it as a diet supplement. Just because it doesn’t cause cancer in rats doesn’t mean that it’s a good thing to ingest on a regular basis. The biggest problem with slimming and diet supplements is that they are not rigorously tested by the FDA. Some supplements are not tested at all.
Always remember when viewing or hearing advertisements for slimming and diet supplements that the goal of the advertisers is to sell their products and not to help you lose weight. Be careful when using supplements regularly since the effects are not fully known. The best advice is to not use slimming and diet supplements, but to look at the active ingredients in them that are known to be 100% safe, and then use those items. For example, many such supplements have green tea extract in them. While the benefits or drawbacks of the supplements are still in question, the benefits of green tea are widely known, and the drawbacks are nonexistent.

Royal Creamware Fine China : la Crème de la Crème
Austere is a good word for Royal Creamware Fine China. It is classic china, a standard in upper-class homes across the United Kingdom and around the world. Products are typical fine china products: teapots, plates, soup plates and gravy boats are standard issue. The collection also boasts coffee pots and chocolate pots…and being from the United Kingdom, Royal Creamware Fine China has a multitude of teapot designs.
This fine china is more expensive than your average American china, but folks are still flocking to Royal Creamware Fine China just like they’re flocking to Apilco or to Noritake. Pottery and china seem to be a domestic domain in which fads do not rule; classics retain their appeal.
If one looks at some examples of Royal Creamware, it is obvious why these pieces maintain their allure. The pieces are simply beautiful; the lines are clean, the shapes are classics, and there are no designs or colors to interfere with the beautiful shape and line of the piece itself. Such beauty attracts buyers with classic taste, buyers looking to admire their tableware, not be wowed by the picture of the butterfly on it.
When it comes to classics, less is truly more—-in design that is, not in price. Royal Creamware Fine China fits the bill famously.

Non-pharmaceutical Snoring Relief
Earplugs and white noise machines are a common answer to the problem of sleeping near someone who is a regular snorer. These solutions don’t target the problem at its source; they help to alleviate the effects of the problem. Nasal strips that open the airways, on the other hand, treat the problem at its source.
Snoring relief can be found through nasal strips that, in essence, spread the nose a bit wider (from the outside), which opens nasal passages, allowing more air to flow through. The result is in reduced snoring. Testimonials from those who’ve tried such nasal strips, and from those who sleep in the same room, attest to less snoring.
In addition to testifying to less snoring, the users often attest to reduced sleepiness during the day. This could mean that the quality of sleep is vastly affected and that these snoring relief products not only bring about a quiet sleeping environment, but also actually improve sleep for the person who had been snoring. The result benefits not only the bystanders, but also the snorer. For this reason, if snoring relief is to target all parties affected by snoring, remedies such as nasal strips are a better answer than earplugs.

Getting Peak Performance through Sports Nutrition
Sports nutrition is a burgeoning field, as physical therapy and other related domains are. Being a top-notch athlete is no longer solely about practice and performance. Nutritionists specializing in sports nutrition adapt ‘average’ bodily needs to those of high-performance athletes. The most important factors in sports nutrition are proper hydration and adequate and appropriate levels of fuel…i.e. food.
While the average daily activity of a person requires an intake of 8 classes of water a day, athletes need much more than this. It is important to stay hydrated before and after activity as well as throughout the activity. This can be more difficult than it seems, because there is no ‘magic number’, only the fact that athletes need more than 8 cups per day.
In terms of eating, a high percentage of carbohydrates are needed in an athlete’s diet. Carbohydrates are the body’s natural fuel source; while protein is effective for muscle building, protein has to be converted before it can be used as energy. Carbohydrates (60-70%) and fats (‘Good ones, please) should constitute the largest percentage of an athlete’s diet. Protein is, of course, needed for building strength, but sports nutrition will never recommend Atkins as carbohydrates are the body’s first source of energy.

A Myriad of Products for Natural Pain Relief
All-natural pain relief products claim to be good for us because they are all-natural. Made from herbs and other naturally occurring elements, they are marketed not only as all-natural, but as safe for use based, in most cases, solely on being all-natural. Consumers should use caution when trying out these products, either by looking for ones that have been tested and have passed rigorous restrictions made by the FDA, or, in cases where this is not possible, always consult a doctor in order to make an informed choice.
Magnetic therapy and far-infrared therapy are two more forms of natural pain relief. Consumers can read many testimonials online about these wonderful, natural, pain relief options; however, there is also information to be found online about being cautious when trying out some of these therapies.
The bottom line is that some of these natural pain relief ideas could be entirely safe AND effective, but consult your doctor before trying these pain relievers, especially when taking any kind of pills, all-natural or not, is involved.

Royal Winton Chintz Revival
Though discontinued, Royal Winton Chintz retained its popularity and appeal. Collectors sought antique pieces, keeping the value of Chintz items high. As a result, when the company changed hands in the 90s’, Royal Winton Chintz came back on the scene. When there’s a good thing going, it should be kept going, even if it is not the most lucrative design among Royal Winton’s lines. At least, that’s how the new operators felt, and collectors are now collecting new pieces to keep alongside their acquired classics.
Royal Winton Chintz comes in more than ten designs. Each design features flowers of one or more color. Many patterns feature flowers of blues and reds, some yellows, most have greenery and all have a cream-like colored background. The designs are all of small flowers, and result in a feminine look. The austere Royal Creamware appeals to one crowd, while Royal Winton Chintz appeals to another. Both fashioned in the UK, they do not rival each other. Each style is beautiful in its own way.
Royal Winton Chintz is used to decorate tableware, china, collectibles and giftware. Collectors can distinguish new pieces by the year ‘1995’ emblazoned on the back of all pieces created since the 1995 revival of Chintz.

The Appeal of ‘My Little Pony’ Toys
My Little Pony toys are basically an animal version of Barbie dolls. Many girls comb Barbie’s hair and walk her around, socializing with Ken, etc., while other girls comb their My Little Pony’s hair and walk their ponies around, socializing with each other. Some girls do both! The appeal of the My Little Pony figures is, by no means, exclusive to horse-lovers. Actually, most horse-riding girls are not interested in My Little Pony toys because these ponies are nothing like the ponies that they themselves enjoy riding.
My Little Pony figures come in bright colors, with pink and purple bodies and hair. They are always smiling and their cotton-candy hair is always sleek and untangled. This is a far cry from the strong, large, brown bodies that young horse-riders groom at the barn. There is an irreconcilable difference between the real horses and the My Little Pony figurines. The figurines appeal to girls who have not fallen in love with real horses, or who have only fallen in love with horses in the abstract sense. Girls who have ridden, groomed, and fallen in love with a real, live horse seem immune to the appeal of the My Little Pony figurines.
Just like Barbie is an unrealistic woman, My Little Pony is an unrealistic horse. Thankfully for Hasbro and for Mattel, little girls seem to prefer the romanticized play versions of women and horses to the ‘real thing’.

Multitudes of Uses for Aromatherapy Essential Oils
The most common uses for aromatherapy essential oils are related to stress relief. Many scents are linked to this, including lavender, various mints, and other ‘calming’ scents. Essential oils can be diluted into massage oils and gels for a relaxing massage. Creams and lotions can be bought and self-applied at bedtime. Room or linen sprays can be sprayed throughout the house throughout the day, or in the bedroom prior to bedtime. Some hard-core believers extend the uses for aromatherapy essential oils to ingestion; taking a drop or two of peppermint or basil to calm an upset stomach. While some swear by this, it is not doctor recommended…at least not yet.
Other uses for aromatherapy essential oils include relieving itching from mosquito bites (and simultaneously discouraging future bites by repelling mosquitoes!), relaxing tense muscles, improving skin tonicity, and clearing out nasal congestion. Of course, if one asks a doctor about these supposed effects, different doctors will sing you a different tune, and they have to. Essential oils are not tested by the FDA, so while some doctors will repeat what they’ve read in alternative health journals on the uses for aromatherapy essential oils, modern medicine requires that they abstain from, say, prescribing three drops of pure basil essential oil.

Changing Habits through Lose-Weight Hypnosis
A special kind of hypnosis, lose-weight hypnosis, addresses this problem head-on. In order to lose weight, hypnosis is used to change the person’s outlook on food, diet, and exercise. Instead of resisting cravings for chocolate and ice cream, the person using this kind of hypnosis will work to change the craving at its source: inside the brain. It is likely that we can all agree that changing the craving instead of resisting it sounds like a method much more likely to succeed.
Anyone who’s tried fad diets knows how hard it is to lose weight. Hypnosis promises to make the process easier and more enjoyable, while simultaneously producing a greater effect. Now that’s a tall order! While it may seem too good to be true, many lose-weight hypnosis programs (mostly CDs for home use) come backed by a 100% satisfaction guarantee. Most fad diets don’t come with that, neither do fitness magazines nor fitness equipment. The fact is, healthy food and fitness equipment need to be USED more than they need to be purchased, and that is where lose-weight hypnosis enters the scene. It can change our thinking from within.

Vitamins & Mineral Supplements in a Fast-Food Nation
Vitamins and mineral supplements are a good idea for people who have exceptional health needs; most doctors would agree that a pregnant woman should be taking pre-natal vitamins. However, the average, clean-bill-of-health adult should not rely on vitamins and mineral supplements to meet daily recommended values. Vitamins and minerals are best absorbed in their natural form. This is the reason why we are advised to take vitamins and mineral supplements with a meal, so that they can mix up with the real food, but they are still inferior to the actual vitamins and minerals found in foods.
The answer to meeting daily recommended values is in eating a healthy and balanced diet. A very healthy meal, if repeated seven nights a week in succession, is no longer a very healthy meal because diets lacking in variety are off-balance in vitamins and minerals. In order to get a healthy amount of a wide variety of vitamins and minerals, you can rely on supplements, but the healthiest way is to drive by the drive-thru, instead of through, and pick up a wide variety of whole foods and eat those throughout the week, sans supplément.

Just What Exactly is Acupuncture?
Tiny acupuncture needles are inserted into various parts of the body along what are called ‘meridian’ lines. Traditional Chinese Medicine asserts that it is along these meridians the Qi (energy) travels through the body. Although it is not known precisely how or why, stimulation through acupuncture needles stimulates the flow of Qi in the body. Experienced acupuncturists can balance the flow of Qi in the body by changing the flow of Qi along these meridians. According to experienced acupuncture specialists, there are twelve major meridians (as well as some ‘extra’ meridians). Along these meridians, over 365 ‘points’ can be found; however, most acupuncturists actively stimulate about 150 of these points. Acupuncture is the precise practice of knowing which points to stimulate, how, and when.
Western doctors frequently question the benefits of acupuncture because it can not yet, scientifically, be established how exactly acupuncture works. Despite this fact, many western doctors report that patients consistently see improvement in their conditions or symptoms when being treated through acupuncture. Patients looking to try acupuncture should be warned that there are some risks with acupuncture. It is an invasive process, and if needles are inserted too deeply, or at the wrong angle, damage can occur to the body. Trained acupuncture specialists should have absolutely no problem keeping you safe; check their credentials. Acupuncture can be trusted; make sure that your acupuncturist can also be trusted.

Acupuncture or Acupressure?
Acupressure is not an invasive technique. There are no needles involved, although the same meridian lines and points can be found in discussions or practice of acupressure. Acupressure is a form of massage that differs from Swedish massage (the form of massage with which you are most likely familiar). Acupressure is a form of massage that focuses in on the points that are connected to the symptoms from which the patient is suffering. A skilled practitioner of acupressure should know the effects of stimulating different points along the body’s meridian lines.
Scientists and doctors are undecided on the total effects of acupressure. Acupressure has not been scientifically proven to the extent to which acupuncture has recently been supported based on scientific research. Two areas that have seen consistent effects with acupressure treatment are in the relief of lower back pain and in the reduction of post-operative nausea. Many other possible treatments are still under investigation.
Although still in the early stages of western scientific investigation, acupressure has been practiced in Traditional Chinese Medicine for a long time, with good results. While acupuncture is currently more medically acceptable in the US, acupressure poses less risk because of its non-invasive nature…and since doctors rarely prescribe either acupressure OR acupuncture, the ultimate choice is yours.

Reaping the Benefits of Using Aromatherapy Pure Essential Oils
The key to reaping the benefits of using aromatherapy pure essential oils is in diluting the pure essential oil correctly. Pure essential oils are highly potent and one should use extreme caution when working with pure essential oils in their undiluted, extracted form. One immediately notices the difference between pure essential oil of lavender and a shea butter cream infused with lavender. When one closely reads the ingredients list on products such as lotions, gels and bath salts, it becomes clear that the pure essential oil is a MUCH smaller percentage of the final product than, for example, water and glycerin are.
For some, it may seem that the best way to reap the benefits of using aromatherapy pure essentials oils is to slather them on, drop by drop, from a 1 oz. bottle of pure essential oil. The opposite is true. The proof is in the size of the bottle; pure essentials oils come in such little bottles because consumers should use very small amounts of the essential oils diluted in other substances such as carrier oils. In order to be safe, and to experience the benefits of using aromatherapy pure essential oils at the same time, handle the oils with care.

The Fad of Herbal Supplements
The recent burst in herbal supplements such as Echinacea sparked a wealth of opinionated information across the Nation. Many health-conscious Americans jumped on the herbal bandwagon after reading about, or hearing about, the multifarious and practically guaranteed, results of certain herbal supplements. While a cup of chamomile tea has always been used as an adult version of a child’s glass of warm milk at bedtime, and a cup of peppermint tea has frequently been used to calm an upset stomach, herbal supplements are a whole new ballgame.
In this new ballgame, the stakes are high, as consumers raid the shelves everywhere from pharmacies to Wal-Mart for bottles of Echinacea, Niacin, Vitamin E, Gingko Biloba, St. John’s Wort, and Valerian Root. While these herbal supplements may not produce alarming immediate effects, the brazenness of consumers should be cause for alarm in and of itself. Herbal supplements are not tested or regulated by the FDA. In a nation where consumers sue if their cereal claims to have 10 grams of sugar less than it has, wouldn’t it seem natural that consumers would balk at ingesting daily, or thrice daily, a product wholly untested by the Food and Drug Administration.
While some herbal supplements may produce a beneficial effect, many have a limit concerning the number of consecutive weeks that one should take that supplement. Furthermore, some herbal supplements are contraindicated with certain medications, so be sure to tell your doctor just which supplements you’re on, and listen to him if he deems them ill-advised. Herbal supplements can be helpful when used appropriately; since the FDA is not informing us about appropriate dosing and duration, encourage your doctor to help you decide.

Holistic Health and Beauty Therapy Go Hand in Hand
One could think of beauty therapy as simply researching the properties of the gemstones we wear on our rings and in our ears. Have you ever noticed the healing properties of emeralds and sapphires? No? Honestly, neither had many others. Many still doubt their healing properties because their nature is part of holistic health, and beauty therapy, and not a part of traditional western medicine. How does one feel when gazing at that diamond gracing the ring finger? The simple answer is: superb, sublime… honestly euphoric…at least for the first few years anyway.
When one feels beautiful, stress melts away. Breaths run deeper and smiling releases endorphins. The combination of holistic health and beauty therapy is a united front in all ways when it comes to total body, soul, spiritual, and mental health. Holistic health and beauty therapy use wholesome means, natural versus synthetic healers…but the name ‘holistic health’ should truly refer to its holistic vision of treating the whole person—all aspects of physical and spiritual life, and the beauty should ideally come from the sunshine that radiates from within: happiness.

Beyond Nicotine Patches: Herbal Stop Smoking Products
Herbal 'stop smoking' products that address the craving to smoke as well as the craving for nicotine are the newest thing. These herbal remedies address the needs of a smoker from a much more global standpoint than simply by nicotine or another drug to which one is addicted. Herbal stop smoking products go deeper than treating the symptoms. Nicotine patches fulfill the craving for nicotine whereas herbal stop smoking products treat the craving at its source---the brain.
The herbs in these products do everything from balance serotonin levels in the brain to fight urges to eat sweets. They also address sleep disorders and headaches associated with nicotine withdrawal. A product of holistic health and the rise of alternative medicine, herbal stop smoking products embody holistic health, helping smokers to stop smoking while helping them do it in a healthy way. It is in this fashion that the healthier lifestyle starts as the last cigarette goes into the ashtray, not when the last nicotine patch comes off. Quitting in a healthy way also boosts confidence, leading, for most, straight to success.

Popularity of Moda in Pelle Shoes
Women's fashion of the 21st century can be described as a true fashion, in the original meaning of the word 'fashion'. Fashion experts would call 'grunge' a 90's fashion, while fashion designers would deny its existence as a fashion because it was, well, fashionable to be unfashionable. Moda in Pelle shoes embrace everything that grunge did not. Moda in Pelle embraces a metropolitan fashion that says I'm not actually going to work to work, I'm going to work to be seen in my fashionable clothes.' Don't agree? Check out The Devil Wears Prada and see what's current.
They may not be the most comfortable, but Moda in Pelle shoes are, just as their name suggests, fashionable…at least for the moment. From their pointed tips to their stiletto heels, with sequins and glitter in between, they are designed to match the current clothing fashions which flounce more than they have in a long time. 'Feminine' went out a long time ago, but now it's back. Moda in Pelle shoes are one piece of evidence for that. Is 'feminine' simply a fad or is feminine women’s fashion back to stay?

Healing Aromatics
Unlike standard vegetable oils, pure essential oils are very concentrated. They must be diluted before being applied to human skin.
Pure essential oils work on the brain’s limbic system. The effects on the parasympathetic nervous system is intense, and its effect powerfully antibacterial.
Other then the standard steam distillation method, there are several other means of making pure essential oils. Hydrodistillation is one method, similar to steam distillation except for the use of water rather than steam. The vast majority of these pure essential oils are made by some sort of distillation method. In every type of distillation, water is heated until it steams, and then carries volatile chemicals from it. This steam is then placed in a condenser where it is chilled. The distillate that results is collected. The pure essential oils generally float above the components of the distilled water and then are separated and removed.
With the hydrodistillation method of creating pure essential oils, the plants are submerged completely in the water and a soup is produced. The steam from this combination contains the aromatic molecules that make the pure essential oils. This method is the oldest and the one with the most versatility. It is often used in less advanced countries, although it has to be carefully watched. Should the still run dry or be heated too much the aromatics can burn. At that point they are useless as pure essential oils.
Athletic Enhancement Through Nutrition
In medieval times, doctors encouraged the consumption of a human heart as a sports nutrition method. It was thought to increase intelligence and bravery. The extracts of the human heart’s pituitary glands were believed to enhance the strength of the body’s muscles.
As early as 300 BC Olympians in Greece ate mushrooms as a sports nutrition food. In 1865 sports nutrition for swimmers in Holland revolved around caffeine, while athletes in Belgium around the same time consumed sugar cubes that had been dipped in ether. Cactus was considered a sports nutrition product for marathon runners.
Dietary supplements for sports nutrition are now easily available through pharmacies, health food retailers, supermarkets, by mail and of course all over the Internet. Sports nutrition supplements are the most sought after of any dietary nutrition products, with athletes consuming sports nutrition and dietary supplements more often than 40 percent of the world’s general population. 59 percent of professional athletes consume dietary supplements as part of their sports nutrition regimen, as do 43 percent of college athletes.
The most common method of supplementing a sports nutrition regimen is with multiple vitamins and minerals such as vitamin C, iron, B-complex vitamins, Vitamin E, Vitamin A and calcium.
Serious athletes focus on sports nutrition to improve their athletic performance by increasing their endurance, strengthening their muscles, helping their bodies recover from heavy workouts, and to prevent any illness or injury from overexertion.

Dining with Royalty
The term chintz comes from a 17th century Indian word, chint, which means fabric that is brightly and broadly printed. Explorers from England, Portugal, Spain and Italy brought these chintz patterns back from India after their new world explorations. The fabrics they discovered were thickly woven and had bird and floral designs in many bright colors. These precursors to Royal Chintz China became vastly popular in Europe.
In the 1920’s Sydney and Leonard Grimwade, British brothers, developed mass production and manufacturing processes for the creation of chintz china. They bought out a porcelain factory in Staffordshire England and began what was to become Royal Chintz China. Leonard, a former lithographer, invented a transferring process called duplex lithography as well as his Climax kiln.
Both of these had a positive effect on the Royal Chintz china manufacture as well as the entire dinnerware industry as a whole. Thanks to Grimwade Royal Chintz china could now be manufactured quickly, easily and continually. Mass production of royal chintz china had Leonard Grimwade to thank.
The first Royal Chintz china pattern released by the brothers Grimwade was the Marguerite, named after Leonard’s wife’s pillow stitch pattern. Soon after its release Grimwades Ltd. Became Royal Winton Chintz China. 80 patterns total were then designed, some created by simply reversing the coloring of the background and the pattern’s foreground colors.
In 1993, Spencer Hammer and Associates took over the Royal Winton Chintz china firm, recreating some of its old chintz china patterns.

Tisserand’s Toils for Treatments
Robert Tisserand believed fervently in the use of aromatherapy as a medicinal complement to standard medications. A member of the International Journal of Armotherapy’s editorial committee, Tisserand founded the journal in 1988 and he edited its issues for 12 years. He works very closely with herbal enthusiasts and physicians alike, and follows all scientific research on essential oils as it is published.
Tisserand’s aromatherapy interests are educational as well. He was one of the founders of many aromatherapy organizations, and serves as primary executive and founder of the Tisserand Institute of London. Robert Tisserand has given lectures all over the world, and has held three internationally attended conferences on aromatherapy, all held in the UK. He has also been interviewed about aromatherapy countless times, by print, television and radio reporters.
Tisserand hasn’t given up the hands-on functions of creating his company’s products, however. He formulates its blends of essential oils, and defines the herbal extracts that are part of each aromatherapy oil product.
Tisserand’s most recent publication is called Essential Oil Safety. It is the first definitive aromatherapy reference book to help those in the industry safely use and applied the more than 300 essential oils required for the creation of aromatherapy products.

Trained by Thomas
The first Hornby Thomas and Sons train set to be produced for commercial sale was the adorable Percy the Small Engine train character. It was released in 1967 as part of a train set by Meccano.
Developed in response to its popularity on the children’s TV show, Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends, this talking steam engine also was part of a group of books called The Railway Series, written by father and son Wilbert and Christopher Awdry.
Hornby Thomas’s Percy the living steam engine lives on the pretend island of Sodor with many other trains that include Gordon the Big Engine, Thomas the Tank Engine and Henry the Green Engine. Percy, number 6 engine, is the smallest of the island’s engine inhabitants and the most outspoken.
The Fat Controller brought this tiny Hornby Thomas engine to Sodor to help resolve a train engine strike on the island. Initially having to endure bullying from the bigger engines, Percy finally showed his capabilities and earned their respect. The Fat Controller finally promoted Percy to hauling goods on the important Hornby Thomas branch line. The headstrong Thomas is one of Percy’s best train friends, as is the beloved Toby the Tram engine.
The first appearance of these fictional Hornby Thomas characters in book form was in 1950. Percy made his first television appearance in the Hornby Thomas TV series Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends in 1985.

Wooden You Like These Toys?
In the 1500’s German premiered toy manufacture for the public, hiring crafters to create wooden toys and sales people to travel ever part of Europe selling these wooden toys. Children of European royalty had customized wooden toys sent from Germany to commemorate events such as anniversaries and birthdays.
19th century children played with elaborate wooden toys, such as large theaters and doll houses with gaudy and ornate decorations. Wooden soldiers and jack in the boxes were gaily painted for these children’s delight. Wooden box shaped trains were popular too, as were their grooved train tracks made of wood.
The Swedish Brio firm created all sorts of wooden toys but is best known for its wooden toy trains. Each year Brio manufactures nearly four million wooden trains, trucks and cars for various parts of the globe. In fact, Ford Motor Company doesn’t deliver as many vehicles to the U.S. as does Brio.
While wooden toys, a more costly and less flexible product than the newer plastic play things, are less popular than they once were, they still have their followers, especially with teachers. A few large wooden toy manufacturers flourish or at least hold their own, but many smaller crafters and mom and pop enterprises flourish with wooden toys that fit every budget and customized need.
Early childhood education experts tout the benefits of wooden toys, especially for young special needs children, who thrive on the sensory benefits of wooden toys.

Getting the Skinny on Skin Care
Dermalogica skincare began in 1986. The International Dermal Institute, a skincare training school at the postgraduate level, was the catalyst. Researchers at the educational facility shocked the skincare world with Dermaologica’s refusal to use any artificial colors, synthetic fragrance, alcohol, mineral oil or lanolin. These products were inexpensive commonly used skincare products, but actually caused more skin problems than they resolved. Dermalogica’s founders also insisted that its skincare professionals meet top levels of expertise and training. They were committed to offering reliable skincare consultations for consumers without Dermalogica skincare bowing to fads and hype.
Dermalogica skincare executives emphasize their commitment to great skincare products in straight forward, no-frills packaging. They focus always on education about skin care and formulation of new effective products.
Primary ingredients of Dermalogica skincare products are pure essential and natural oils and extracts, calming agents that are naturally purifying. Some of these are balm mint, green clay, lactic and salicylic acids, fruit enzymes and exfoliating rice bran. All Dermalogica skincare products are non-comedogenic.
Committed to being cruelty free, Dermalogica skincare is not tested on animals ever. All ingredients are also safe for the environment and its packaging can be recycled. Unique Clinique
Each Clinique customer who stops at the cosmetics counter of the department store offering Clinique will be tested scientifically to determine skin type, then given a customized treatment program. This Clinique method will take into account the skin type, facial type, lip type, eye color and several other facial attributes.
Clinique cleansers are gentle, as is it eye make up remover. Instead of removing makeup with a thin solvent, Clinique has devised a creamy and rich lotion that spreads on the eyes evenly and removes all signs of eye makeup quickly.
Clinique’s Comforting Cream Cleanser is fast acting as well, and is rich enough to protect delicate and dry skin. Its cleansing agents also refresh oily skin. Its menthol ingredients loosen and remove dead skin cells while they get rid of the day’s dirt and excess oil. Clinique also offers a gel cleanser especially designed for oily skin to dislodge dirt and makeup.
Clinique introduced its Anti-gravity Firming Lift Cream in October 2000 which helps the rebuilding of skin’s aging epidermis, inhibits the breakdown of the skin’s protective layers and gives skin cells longer healthier life.
Clinique products are now sold in more than 80 countries.
